How to Calculate Texas Holdem Poker odds using a hand calculator.

October 10th, 2006

Do you know how to Calculate texas holdem texas odds using a hand evaluator?  I do!  Well, actually the calculator on the computer.  You don’t have to Graduate from a  Poker Academy to calculate your odds when playing holdem online poker.

Simple division is all you need in this calculation. The numerator(number on top)= number of YOUR outs. The denominator(number on bottom)= amount of cards left UNSEEN. Results are a percentage chance of making one of your outs.

ex.

12 outs
Outs   Cards
Left
Pre-Flop:  12   /  50  =  24%

Flop:      12   /  47  =  25.5%

Turn:      12   /  46  =  26%

Pot odds are easy computate as outs. Just compare your outs to the pot size. When your chances of winning are much better than the ratio of the pot size to a bet, then your pot odds are good. When lower, you have bad pot odds.

EX.  $2/$4 holdem game and Q-Seven Clubs facing one opponent on the turn. A Flush Draw on the board 2C-5D-8C-7H, and only the river card left to make it. Any club will finish this flush for you, so you have 9 outs (9 clubs left in the deck) and 46 unseen cards. 9/46 like saying you have 1 in 5 chance of getting your flush. Your opponent bets $4. If you take a $4 bet you could win $100. $80/$4 is 20, so you stand to make 20x more if called.

That’s my understanding of it.  I may be wrong.  But from the stuff I’ve read, that is what I get out of it.

Artificial Intelligence Software for Holdem Poker

October 10th, 2006

I have been reading in the blogs tonight while I wrote my previous post and was interested in the Texas Holdem Poker Artificial Intelligence Software articles.  I’ve seen this technology in Casinos at PokerPro tables.  When playing on the PokerPro tables, it’s kinda weird.  I even wrote an article about the PokerPro table and how I found it an experience.  I’m not sure, but is the software that runs PokerPro the same the leading poker training software developer? Maybe I should research this.  It would be interesting.

Will Safe Port Act Prevent me from Playing Texas Holdem Poker Online?

October 8th, 2006

In short, On 30 September 2006 the US Congress passed the SAFE Port Act which also contained certain provisions known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (the Act) that will affect the processing of payments between US customers and online gaming companiesThe legislation is expected to be signed into law by President Bush within the next two weeks.  Well, I don’t think this act will prevent me from practicing online poker.  I guess as long as I’m not deposting money, I will fine.  Unless they make it illegal to the playing of holdem poker online.  That would be completely wrong for them to do that.  Hmmmmm, I wonder if any of the Congress play the game online.  That would be interesting to find out.
